Get paid for being green at CVS

Get paid for being greenA new program at CVS will pay you for not using plastic shopping bags.

Here’s how it works: For 99 cents, buy a “GreenBagTag” at any CVS story. Clip it on to your key ring or a cloth shopping bag. Each time you complete a purchase and don’t take a plastic shopping bag, the cashier will scan your tag. For every four times you go green, you’ll earn $1 in ExtraCare bucks, redeemable on future CVS purchases.

To participate, you must be a member of CVS’s ExtraCare program, but it’s a snap to sign up. Go to CVS.com and click on “Get your ExtraCare Rewards today” in the top bar.

Halloween Countdown: Have a horror movie night at home

witchs-purse-1875216-l18 days until Halloween!

Save some money on your date night this month and instead rent classic Halloween horror flicks to watch after the kids go to bed. Serve up some adult appetizers like Voodoo Fondue for only $1.05 per serving and Witch’s Purse for only $1.17 per serving. Interview with the Vampire and The Shining will get you in the Halloween spirit, but remember that these movies are not for the faint of heart. Be sure to have a nightlight ready, just in case!

Donate to charity with a few clicks

siteAlmost every weekday, the first thing I do when I turn on my computer is donate to some worthwhile organizations. How can I afford to do it? It’s free! (Well, sponsors pay for it.) Just go here and click through the tabs at the top—by doing so, you can help feed the hungry, give money for breast cancer research, literacy and for the rainforests, plus provide food for rescue animals. Consider it your good deed for the day!

Lather, rinse, donate

hairGive back—even if it means donating your hair. There are a lot of great charities out there that provide real-life wigs to those in need. And now that it’s officially autumn, what better time than now to go in for a new fall ‘do?

Before you snip off your ponytail, do your homework. To make sure your donation makes a difference (so it doesn’t get tossed into the “can’t use” pile), check out this step-by-step tutorial (nexxus.com/locksoflove).

If you don’t have a charity in mind, here’s a good place to start:

Locks of Love (locksoflove.org)
provides real-life wigs to children with long term medical hair loss.

Beautiful Lengths (beautifullengths.com) provides real-hair wigs for cancer patients across the nation.
