I’m hooked on mint.com, an online money management and budget-planning site that categorizes and graphs all your finances automatically each day. Now I can see how much money I spend on food (yikes!), entertainment, shopping and much more. For me the best feature is seeing what percentage of my paychecks goes where -it even breaks down the places where I spend the most (I must lay off the Mexican food!).

All of this info is helping me find where I can save some money. MINT analyzed my spending and lifestyle habits and suggested better banking and credit cards that are better suited to my financial and paying needs. Best of all I just got an iPhone, and MINT has an application so I can stay on top of all my spending by the minute. I’m hoping to cut my expenses by 20% by the end of September. Being such a big movie fan, I’ve found Netflix a great low-cost service. Some weekends I find myself watching a little more television then I like to admit, especially when I don’t have any Netflix DVDs left to view. That’s why I’m obsessed with the Roku (Roku.com; $99). Using the device you can watch more than 12,000 Netflix movies and TV shows instantly (unlimited with your subscription!), or you can purchase over 40,000 movies, plus more from Amazon.com (which are stored in your amazon.com account forever). The Roku hooks up to your Internet connection and wirelessly streams the movies from the computer to the TV. The quality is terrific and even better if you use a HDMI cord to get HD quality. You can pause, fast forward and rewind just like a DVD. And the setup is a breeze—it took me less than 5 minutes to figure out. This device has also been great for all my summer trips. I can take the box with me and hook up to the Internet from anywhere I go and get all my movies from home instead of lugging DVDs.

Have you ever wanted to leave a voicemail for someone, rather than interrupting them with a phone call or having a long (or awkward) conversation? Now you can with slydial. In the last two years Apple has sold 40 million iPhones and iPod touches. And with the company slashing the price of the phone down to $99, you may find there’s a little more room in your budget to join the mania. If so, make sure you take advantage of the 50,000 applications and services available for download in Apple’s App Store – many of which won’t cost you a thing and will lighten your daily load and even save you money!

Cheap gas. With rising gas prices on the horizon for summer, save a few extra bucks using this app that lists the lowest gas prices in your area.

Where. Whether you’re looking for great places to eat, in need of a coffee fix, searching for the cheapest gas or upcoming concert event — Where can get you there and more. When you’re on the go, this location-based application connects you with the people and places around you.

Mint. Keep track and manage your personal finances anytime from anywhere. Mint allows you to have secure access to your bank and credit card accounts, complete with colorful data charts to keep you on top of your budget. The tool will also alert you when your credit card balances are running low.

CardStar. Lighten your load and replace those bulky discount, reward and membership cards in your wallet with CardStar. Like me, you’ve probably heard it many times — when you leave any device plugged in (even when it’s turned off), it’s still using electricity. Which means your electric bill is a lot higher because of the appliances you have plugged in all over your house.

I for one am not successful— nor, to be honest, do I want to be—at unplugging the TV, computer and its peripherals, lamps, baby monitor, stereo, cell phone charger, etc. Who has time to unplug/re-plug them all each day? Not me, so I’ve been looking around for a product that does the work for me—something that stops the flow of electricity to the wall when a device is turned off—so I don’t have to unplug everything myself.

Yesterday, I finally found it: The “Smart Strip.” It’s a power strip that detects when computers or other devices are on or off and shuts off the power accordingly, thus eliminating the idle current being drawn from the appliance.

Smart Strips start at $30.95 and have been shown to save up to $20 a month on your electric bill, and if it’s being used for a computer, the device pays for itself within six weeks.

You can find them on amazon.com or on the Smart Strip site, smarthomeusa.com. The device can also be found in selected radio shacks.

Personally, I’m going to get a couple — one for my entertainment center and one for my computer station, and I’ll let you know how it works. I’m excited to save money and actually know I’ll be doing something good for the environment. Has anyone out there used this device?

1) Do your online shopping through a cash-back site like Ebates or Cashbaq. Both sites are free and give you a $5 bonus just for signing up. You get anywhere from 2% to 24% back just for shopping online at your favorite stores like GAP, Gymboree and Sephora.

2) Sign up for Upromise and start using Upromise eCoupons. Select the coupons you want, such as for Huggies diapers or Snyder’s pretzels, and the coupons are added to your store savings cards. When you check out at the grocery store, the coupon value will go straight to your Upromise college savings account.

1) Check out Amazon.com. The site has more than 500 free music downloads, and every day there’s a hot new track available. Today it’s “Seven Mile Breakdown” off of the new Taylor Hicks album, The Distance. Sign up for Amazon’s weekly newsletter to get a heads-up on these weekly freebies.

2) Get hip to online radio. I’ve been a long-time fan of AOL Radio, which offers more than 350 free stations, including local CBS Radio stations. Plus, I love that you can skip over songs. So, if you don’t want to listen to that Duran Duran song on the Awesome 80s channel, you can just move on to the next hit.

3) Listen to Muziic. There’s a brand new site called Muziic that lets you stream millions of songs to your PC and it’s completely free (as well as legal!). Basically it works by letting you listen to any song that’s been uploaded to YouTube.

Have you ever tried to search for a Web site that you once stumbled upon, but forgot to bookmark, and it took forever to find? I was recently scouring the net for a specific brownie recipe I saw last week. After 12 clicks, I finally recognized the photo I was looking for.

Today, I heard about a new search engine that eliminates this back and forth clicking of links. I immediately checked it out … and I love it! Head to MelZoo.com, and type what you’re looking for in the search bar. Hit enter, and then a list of sites (just like what appears on search engines) shows up on the left. As your mouse glides over the different links, the homepage of each link shows up on the right side of the window. You can easily spot the Web site you’re looking for. Not only do you do not have to click a million times, but the sites load quicker, too. Genius!
