Keep your garden green

Posted in: House and Home Tips

We call them Household Heroes: They’re everyday objects that can save you time and money. Here’s a few that will help you keep your garden green….

  • Coffee grounds: Sprinkle used grounds onto your garden to act as a nutrient-rich fertilizer. They also may help ward off slugs and snails.
  • Grass clippings: Spread them over plant beds for an inexpensive, organic mulch.
  • Tabasco sauce: Combine a half teaspoon of Tabasco sauce, one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap and 16 ounces of water in a spray bottle for a solution that will chase bugs from your flowering plants. (First test the spray on a branch to see if it will harm the plant. If it’s OK the next day, spray the whole plant.)
  • Fish: Bury fish scraps in the soil at the base of rose beds to add vitality to the blooms
