Wrap holiday presents on a budget
Do you want to give pretty packages but don’t have a lot of money to spend on paper and other supplies? Try these ideas!
- Head to the backyard and pick up some pinecones. Attach them to packages for a wintry feel. Or, if you’re giving to a person who loves the beach, use shells from your last vacation to spruce up their present.
- Don’t spend money on gift boxes. Ask for them at stores, or cover an old shoe or cereal box with pretty paper and put the present in that.
- Wrap DVDs in the movie listings from the newspaper.
- Giving to a foodie? Buy inexpensive dishtowels and hand towels at a dollar or discount store and use them to wrap the gift. The towels double as another part of the present.
- Tie a Christmas ornament that you no longer need (but that’s still in good condition) to a package to dress it up.
- Have extra construction paper? Use it to wrap a present or as a ribbon to adorn a package.
- Tear sheets out of a crossword puzzle book you already have and wrap a puzzle lover’s gift in it. Attach a couple of pencils to the outside.
- Wrap gift cards or money in an empty peanut butter jar that you wash and then decorate with colored paper or paint. Put the card or cash in tissue paper, stuff it in the jar and screw on the top.
