Buying food for your dog or cat is a necessity, but it can be expensive. Here are some strategies to help you keep more money in your wallet:

* Visit your favorite pet food brand’s Web site. Many companies, such as Purina and Iams, offer coupons on their site (although you might have to sign up for a company newsletter, participate in a contest or promotion or take part in a frequent buying or membership program to get these deals).

* Browse a pet food supplier Web site, like petfoodirect.com, for markdowns.

* Review grocery and discount store (like Target and Walmart) circulars for price cuts.

* Sign up for and use loyalty cards at pet stores to take advantage of sales.

* Print pet food coupons at coolsaving.com, shopathome.com and other printable coupon sites.
