So now the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program has ended, it will be interesting to compare with Australia’s approach – specifically the tax rebate for new machinery (including cars)

Many cars were not eligible for a cash for clunker voucher either because they got more than 18mpg or because they did not run. If that’s your case, you can get a tax deduction if you donate your car to charity. Your car donation will also help a worthy charity.

I think the program should have waited another year when the fuel efficiency standards for the new models are higher

Haha, I wish I could afford to buy even a used car. I’m a full time student and father, which means that I am broke. My car broke down and now I’m stuck without a car, but having no/bad credit certainly won’t help us to buy a new car.

We bought a new car this week, but did not use “Clash for Clunkers.” My concern is how many of us used it to get brand new vehicles thereby contributing to the national debt. We actually got a better deal, lower payments, on a car four years with our car as a trade in (a clunker)without using the government program.
