Use Twitter and save

twitterTwitter has skyrocketed in popularity during the past year. The service, which lets you post 140-character updates about your life and “follow” others, now hosts updates from not only your coworker or neighbor, but also celebrities like Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah. If you learn how to use Twitter in the right way, though, you’ll get more out of it than hearing about what your cousin had for breakfast. Many companies now have official Twitter accounts, and use them to broadcast great savings. Check out a few brands to follow to save big.

Amazon MP3
The online retailer offers “Daily Deals” on this account, highlighting deep discounts on music downloads. Entire albums can go for as low as $1.99!

Dell Outlet Dell has a large number of Twitter accounts (you can see the full list here). If you want deep discounts, Dell Outlet’s account posts discount codes on refurbished computers. They also post coupons on their Facebook page. Another great account to follow is DellHomeOffers, which posts great deals on brand-new Dell products.

Overstock.com Every Wednesday is “winsday” for Overstock, when the online discount retailer holds a giveaway over Twitter. You just have to “retweet” (re-post the original tweet with the prefix “RT @Overstock”) to enter to win. This past week Overstock gave away one $50 gift card and two $25 cards.

Whole Foods The grocery chain has a huge list of Twitter accounts, whether they’re local, topical or corporate. Check out the list to see if a Whole Foods in your hometown has an account, and follow them for updates on in-store sales and discounts. For example, Birmingham’s store updates when new fruit varieties come in, and Durham, N.C.’s store updates when vendors are giving away free samples.

Want more value from Twitter? There are tons of Twitter accounts which give updates on great coupons and deals both on and offline. Try out Coupon Tweet, Free Sample Momma, Coupon Central and, of course, All You!

Megan thanks for this article. I just did a post a few weeks ago called Twittering to Frugality, and this ties in perfectly to it so I directed my readers here.

Twitter is very addictive. I like Twitter more than blogging. the messages are short and straight to the point.
