Save big with one small change

72323055Recently, I’ve started brewing my own iced tea at home and bringing it to work in a travel mug. I was buying tea out once a day at a nearby coffee shop or at our company’s cafeteria, costing me about $2 a pop. While that’s not a lot of money, it started to add up. (I also wanted to cut down on my caffeine intake and I couldn’t find decaffeinated tea at restaurants and cafés, but I could brew it easily at home.) I was floored when I figured up how much I could save by making this change:

A whopping $475 a year!

A box of 48 Lipton decaffeinated tea bags costs about $4 at my local grocery store. I get about 40 glasses out of a box—that’s 10 cents per glass. I’m saving $1.90 per glass by not going to a restaurant. Over the course of a year (assuming I drink five glasses a week), that’s almost $500 in savings!

What have you started making at home to conserve cash?

I use the store brand decaffeinated tea bags (usually Great Value, which I like the best) and can save even more than that. I love this tip!
