Banish ingrowns in five ways

What are ingrowns? They’re hairs that grow out a bit, then curl back into the skin, resulting in redness and bumps. Ladies with naturally curlier hair are more prone than straight-hair gals, but here are a few pointers that can help:
1. Never shave dry. It’ll lead to irritation.
2. Soften the hair. Shaving cream/gel has emollients to lubricate the skin.
Tomoko’s pick: Pure Silk Shave Cream in Melon Splash $1.79; walgreens.com.
3. Shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it. You’ll get a closer shave that way.
4. Change blades often. Opt for razors with lubricated strips and flexible blades.
Tomoko’s pick: Bic Soleil Bella, $6.49; at mass retailers.
5. Wait a few minutes in the shower. Give hair some time to soften and absorb water. It helps the hair stand away from the skin, making it easier to shave off.
