Reading programs that pay back

Posted by Erin Gifford, owner of CouponCravings.com

child-reading-roy200This past year my kindergartener has become an avid reader. So of course I’m excited about all the great reading programs to keep her motivated and ready for school in September. Here are four free summer reading programs you may want to check out:

1) Look into Bookworm Wednesdays at National Amusements Theatres. Every Wednesday at 10 a.m., starting July 6, your child can get free admission to a select children’s film when he presents a book report.

2) At TD Bank (formerly Commerce Bank), your child can earn $10 to be deposited into a Young Savers account when he reads 10 books between May 4 and September 30.

Send evites in style and for free!

invitation

With summer barbecue season approaching, I’m in need of some great evites to send out. Bored with the generic evites, I’ve come across pingg.com, a site that provides stylish evites for free! You can pick from a selection of images from the site’s gallery or upload one of your own photos. Invitations can be sent via email, print, SMS/mobile or you can even upload it to your social network like Facebook. Your event page can then be customized adding music, maps, even a news feed to give guest up-to-the-minute details. At the end of the party upload photos to the site to share with all your attendees. I’ll be using pingg.com for all my summertime celebrations.

Get free dessert tonight

Posted by Erin Gifford, owner of CouponCravings.com

ice-creamI’m a sucker for free desserts, and if you are too, I think you’ll like the free dessert offers I’ve compiled below. Yummy!

1)  Get a free slice of strawberry pie with any dinner purchase at Eat’n Park. Or, pop on over to Village Inn for a free piece of pie with any adult entrée purchase.

2)  Sign up for Best Friends of Friendly’s and get a coupon by email for a free three-scoop sundae.

3)  Join Coco’s E-Club and get a coupon for a free dessert as a thank-you.

4)  Get a free root beer float or freeze at any A&W Restaurant. If your A&W offers slushees and limeades, you can get those free too!

5)  Plus, don’t forget to search Free Birthday Treats for listings of all the restaurants near you that will offer you or your kids a free birthday dessert.

Do you have any other great tips for scoring freebies? I’d love to hear them. Feel free to comment or write me directly through CouponCravings.com.

Traveling? Print these coupons!

vacation-430

Whether you’re staying in town for vacation or traveling to a different U.S. city, the expenses can add up. There are sights to see, restaurants to try and hotel rooms and cars to reserve. But now, all of that can be doable with a little help from a new Web site, Savings On Arrival.

Simply choose the city you’ll be staying in, and the site will generate recommendations on what to do and see. Then head to the “Savings Selection Area,” where you’ll find printable coupons and discounts that apply to local businesses in the areas of “things to do,” “dining & nightlife,” “rental cars and more,” and “upcoming events.” Print the coupons and tuck them in your fanny pack! Who says tourists aren’t as savvy as locals?

Can your pet make you sick?

pig-200Even though researchers aren’t yet sure if the A/H1N1 (“swine flu”) virus originated in pigs, the outbreak may still have you thinking about what diseases humans can contract from animals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that cats and dogs can carry germs and pass them to people, and their Health Pets Healthy People Web site lists several diseases—such as Lyme disease, rabies, toxoplasmosis and ringworm—that can be transmitted from pets to humans. However, they say you are not likely to get sick from touching or owning a pet. To better ensure you stay out of the doctor’s office, here are a few precautions you can take to prevent transmission:
