Keep your garden green
We call them Household Heroes: They’re everyday objects that can save you time and money. Here’s a few that will help you keep your garden green….
- Coffee grounds: Sprinkle used grounds onto your garden to act as a nutrient-rich fertilizer. They also may help ward off slugs and snails.
- Grass clippings: Spread them over plant beds for an inexpensive, organic mulch.
- Tabasco sauce: Combine a half teaspoon of Tabasco sauce, one teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap and 16 ounces of water in a spray bottle for a solution that will chase bugs from your flowering plants. (First test the spray on a branch to see if it will harm the plant. If it’s OK the next day, spray the whole plant.)
- Fish: Bury fish scraps in the soil at the base of rose beds to add vitality to the blooms

Visit Health eSavers every week for savings on organic milk, whole-grain pasta, healthful cereals and snacks—even supplements. Also, make a list of your favorite healthy brands, and check out their web sites for more savings. Here are some of my faves:

Gourmet grilling on a budget
Posted by Julie Parrish, a Shopping Strategist and co-owner of Hotcouponworld.com.
If your favorite way to enjoy summer is grilling on the BBQ, don’t fret! You’re not relegated to endless nights of hamburgers and hot dogs because meat prices have gone crazy. In fact, there are all kinds of great deals out there to keep your grocery budget in line while enjoying gourmet delights on the grill.
Shop Early: Most stores have a policy about moving meat products quickly. Many butchers will immediately mark down yesterday’s meat before they start packaging for the day. The savings can be as high as 50 percent off the last marked price. If the meat was already on sale, the daily markdown savings can be as high as 75 percent off full retail!
